If You Don't Trust The Cameras Audio Meters

If your mixer or recorder has a tone generator and you are sending audio to a camera then usually you would send it at -20 or -18dB to line up the meters. This would allow you to trust that when you are at -20 on your metering then the camera will be at -20.

But some of them don't have great meters and some don't even have numbers to their audio meters.

So one trick for metering that you don't trust and it doesn't have an digital input you can change your tone level to be at just below clipping on your device and then when you send that to the camera just adjust accordingly and then you will not be able to clip it again.
