Dealing With Low Level Dialogue

This is from a question by Nathan Romer Audio = "Any advice about recording low level dialogue?"

This is a tricky balance between the technical and the artistic side of the business. You need the actor to give a true performance to be believable but if it's not technically right then may end up being redone.

So striking a balance with both the director and the actors in question about the level everyone is comfortable with is the best solution and conveying that you are on their side and have their interests of capturing the best performance is paramount.
